Sorbitol, D-glucitolUsage
Sorbitol is a perfect fuel for rockets into sugar base.Information
Sorbitol (sorbitol, D-glucitol) is an alcoholic sugar (alditol). It is contained in fruits, especially in cherries and pears. Isolated for the first time in 1872 from a bird crane.
It is industrially produced by reducing glucose. The production of sorbitol from sucrose can be carried out in two ways - chemical and biochemical. In both cases, it is first necessary to break down the sucrose molecule into glucose and fructose and further work with these monosaccharides. The by-product of sorbitol production technology is fructose syrup.
It is used for the preparation of infusion solutions for the production of vitamin C, surfactants, medicaments, toothpastes and low impulse rocket propellants. In the EU Member States, sorbitol is referred to as E420 on products.
