Sodium hydroxide, NaOH, is among the strongest base. It is a highly hygroscopic under normal conditions a white solid, corrosive skin. This is the substance is inorganic. In aqueous solution behaves as a strong base. It absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, forming sodium carbonate and therefore must be stored in airtight containers. Sodium hydroxide is widely used in the chemical industry, especially as a base for the production of pulp and paper, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents. Global production in 1998 was around 45 million tons. Sodium hydroxide is also the most common base in chemical laboratories and tends to be used in households as well as a dry cleaner. The melts hydroxide is one of the few materials which etch silica, react with it quite intensively.
Usage
- Sewer cleaning: Pour into the channel and pour hot water - rather nezalievat boiling water - may sputter, always wear protective clothing!
- Serves as a degreaser, cleans waste from the dissolved state soluble organic deposits marginalized siphons c and sinks.
- As a remover and degreaser dirt.
- In the chemical industry, as a base in the production of pulp and paper, textiles, soaps, detergents and other surfactants, such as titration agent
- In homes in sewage pipes, as a dry cleaner
- In the textile industry (production of artificial silk)
- In metallurgy, the production of bauxite
- For the production of biodiesel
- It is used as a disinfectant to wash-out machine
- In detergents for dishwashers (etched aluminum cookware) and the washing.
