Information
Corn starch is a carbohydrate, synthesized in plants by the polymerization of molecules of D-glucose ((C6H10O5)n), a-join (1,4) and (1,6) glycosidic bonds. It is produced in the corn wet milling process and contains about 28% amylose (linear portion), and 72% amylopectin (branched portion).
Usage
Pharmaceutical industry
Corn starch is used in the fermentation substrate and tabletting.
Paper industry
Corn starch improves the mechanical properties of the paper. It is also used as raw material in the production of adhesives for corrugated board.
Textiles
One of the basic functions of corn starch is starching that may find its use in the textile industry and domestic use.
