Informations
Amidosulfonic acid is an inorganic compound of formula H3NSO3. It melts at 205 ° C before decomposition at higher temperatures to water, sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen. The aqueous solutions are unstable and slowly hydrolysed to ammonium hydrogen sulfate. However, the crystalline form of sulfamic acid is very stable under normal conditions.
Usage
Amidosulfonic acid is used as an acidic cleanser both in pure form and as a component of various blends, mainly for cleaning metals and ceramics. It is often used to remove rust and scale. It forms soluble salts with calcium and ferric cations in water. This substance is more suitable for use in households than hydrochloric acid due to its safety. If it is accidentally mixed with hypochlorite-containing products such as bleach, it does not release chlorine as in the case of other acids.
Other uses: production of paints and dyes, herbicides, component of fire extinguishers (in the form of ammonium salt), in the production of paper as chloride stabilizer.
