Very popular adhesive paper in powder form. It is made from potato starch. It has a unique feature, and that it does not react with metals and are therefore often used in fireworks. Dextrin is diluted with water, thus producing an adhesive mixture. In the technical industry dextrins are widely used in lepidlárstve (in the production of tubes), in foundries (such as bentonite binder mixture). Dextrin is also used for the manufacture of refractory ceramic grinding wheels, matches, prskaviek, briquettes, final adjustments fabric adhesive pastes, watercolor and more.
Information
Dextrins are a group of low molecular weight carbohydrates produced by the hydrolysis of starch.
They have the same molecular formula as carbohydrates but shorter chain. Industrially it is produced primarily by hydrolysis of potato starch.
Dextrins are soluble in water, white to slightly yellowish, and are optically active. Analytically to demonstrate adding iodine to form hnědočerveného to violet color.
