Product name

Calcium Hypochlorite , Calciumhypochlorit , Hypochlorous acid calcium salt Bleaching powder , Calcium oxychloride or chloride of lime , Ca(ClO)2 ,

Information

Calcium hypochlorite is an inorganic compound of formula Ca(ClO)2. This compound is relatively stable and has greater available chlorine than sodium hypochlorite (liquid bleach).

Usage

Calcium hypochlorite is commonly used to disinfect public pools and disinfect drinking water. As a pool chemical, it is mixed less frequently with other chemicals than other forms of chlorine due to hazardous reactions with some common chemicals. Calcium hypochlorite can be used as a universal disinfectant in solution, but sodium hypochlorite (bleach) is usually preferred because of the calcium residue. Calcium hypochlorite is a general oxidizing agent and is therefore found in organic chemistry. for example, the compound is used to cleave glycols, α-hydroxycarboxylic acids and keto acids to yield fragmented aldehydes or carboxylic acids. Calcium hypochlorite can also be used in the halogen form reaction to produce chloroform.
