Potassium hydroxide (KOH) is also known as caustic potash or potassium hydrate. It is a strongly basic compound, like sodium, lithium or calcium hydroxide.
Potassium hydroxide is one of the strong hydroxides (like hydoxidy alkali metal and alkaline earth metal) of the aqueous solutions react with the glass. Also reacts with moisture and carbon dioxide to form potassium carbonate, therefore, stored in sealed containers.

Usage
It is an important industrial chemicals, used to produce a range of industrial goods: for example, it is used in the textile dyeing. Potassium hydroxide solution is used as electrolyte in batteries of different types - galvanic cells. Its corrosive properties are sometimes used for cleaning and disinfection resistant coatings on materials.
