Usage
Limonene is commonly used in cosmetics. As a major component of citrus fragrances (from the Rutaceae family), the D-limonene is used in the production of food and some medicines, for example: bitter alkaloids or for flavoring. It can also be used as a botanical spray. It is being added to the cleaning agents (eg. for hand washing, soaps) as a lemon-orange flavor(orange oil).
Limonene is more and more used as a solvent for cleaning, for example, for removal of oil from the machines and their components, because it is produced from renewable sources (citrus oil, which is a byproduct in the production of juices fromcitrus). It can also serve as a paint remover if applied to painted wood.
For the reason that limonene is flammable - it can be regarded as a biofuel.
